ART GALLERY OF ONTARIO | Massive Party
Creative Director : Joy Broadbent (Broadbent Sisters)
As Creative Directors of the Art Gallery of Ontario's 2016 Massive Party, the Broadbent Sisters curated the "Midnight Massive" theme, inviting over 3000 masked guests to an immersive experience. Collaborating with AGO staff, they oversaw six artists creating installations alongside their own. Throughout the gallery, guests encountered several Broadbent Sister’s art happenings, including a giant suspended sparkle rock and a melting ice motorcycle. Performers dressed as pit-stop crew members greeted guests, while a magician dazzled with mystical tricks. On the fourth floor, dancers performed spa-like tasks around glass staircase pyramids. At midnight, the magician severed a giant braid, symbolically separating the performers and staircases.

“The sisters were mesmerizing to watch and the themes mentioned in the exhibit's description (domestic life, meditation, femininity, religious ritual and pop spirituality) were effortlessly conveyed without the use of words or even overt actions.”
